Introducing: Nindo (again)
Some of you might remember Nindo. It is a small-scale social media platform I introduced somewhere around 2019. It was written very poorly, and to add insult to injury I chose PHP. It was only used by a few people from a local programming community, but it was the first fairly large project I ever worked on, and it taught me the basics of programming. Some people say everyone has this little project they make when they’re learning a programming language. I think that for me it is a social-media platform / messaging app (it’s a bit lame, but I like it I guess).
I always come back to those things. So what am I trying to say? That I’ve made a new social-media platform again of course! I’ve been learning Elixir for my side job at Qdentity in Maassland (great company btw :)). But this time there is a catch! This iteration of Nindo has support for all kinds of RSS. Forexample, you can share posts (like this one) via RSS feeds and your home feed (or FYP as some weird ‘influencers’ or ‘tiktokkers’ call it) is constructed from the users you follow on Nindo + EXTERNAL RSS FEEDS! That is so fucking awesome (in my opinion). Nindo is a bit like a mixture between social-media and an RSS reader in that way.
So, what’s in it for you? I’m not sure if I’m gonna release it (and how and when). The code is publicly available on GitHub and the docs are hosted on my GitHub pages. You can check them out at robinboers.github.io/nindo-phx and robinboers.github.io/nindo-elixir. For now it is hosted via the Qdentity cluster on fly.io. For now you can create an account freely and explore Nindo, but I could shut it down when it gets to much traffic.
Let me know what you think about Nindo! I will try to post here quite regularly about the development and programming in general.
